| Graham Zusi has a breakout year in 2011 |
Per Twitter, Robb Heineman gave a heads up to his followers that Graham Zusi has been resigned for another four years. Additionally, I imagine that Zusi also received a hefty boost to his salary (quite deservedly, I might add). This, for me, is the best news Sporting KC fans have gotten this preseason. Zusi is an extremely talented player, is a huge asset to SKC - and, most importantly, is still developing. There's no doubt that he's still going to grow into an even better player over the years. With this growth also comes a rapidly raising value. Yes, I would absolutely prefer to keep Zusi for as long as possible, but if the situation came up for a move, the transfer fee could end up being quite valuable for Sporting.
There were a few people on Twitter a bit concerned that Zusi would end up like Harrington - contract extension and salary boost after a breakout year, then a sudden drop-off in performance. Honestly, this is not one of my worries.
My hope - and expectation - is that Heineman and Vermes will continue to take steps in securing the plethora of talented young players on the roster. If SKC can hold on to this core group of youngsters, there will certainly be several bright years to come.
Thoughts? What Sporting KC players do you want to see secured for the future? Share in the comments below.
This is excellent. Love that we secured Zeus, the call up was a key thing to his growth. He will be around KC I think for a while.
